Gas prices to stay level over holidays

Gas prices in Missouri are expected to stay at their current level heading into the Thanksgiving holiday.

Head of Petroleum Analysis at GasBuddy Patrick DeHaan says prices in Missouri this year will be the most expensive of the last five years, but not by much.

"Prices today average about $2.29 a gallon statewide.  That's up $.03 from a year ago - still very close to what we spent last year.  But overall, like I said, it's going to be a low price year Thanksgiving holiday weekend.  Many of us will be hitting the road.  In fact, while 30% of respondents to a gasbuddy poll said that gas prices were impacting their travel plans.  Certainly doesn't look like prices will be considerable higher than what we've seen prior to the last five years when prices averaged well over $3 a gallon over Thanksgiving."

DeHaan says most travelers will be going on the road.

"Still expecting a lot of motorists out there.  65% of those traveling are doing so by car.  So you can expect a lot of company on the road for Thanksgiving as well as the rest of the holiday season as well."

The national average for gasoline is 2 dollars and 57 cents, just 1 cent higher than this time last year.
